The Institute for Translational Research is devoted to bringing novel diagnostics and interventions to patients and families suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, fostering translational research in neurodegenerative diseases at UNTHSC, and Create solutions for a healthier community. Our team spans basic "bench-top" science, clinical research, community-based research and clinical trials. Our translational approach is intended to foster discovery and expedite those discoveries toward the benefit of those suffering from brain disease. A particular emphasis of ITR is the development of personalized (or person-focused) medicine for Alzheimer's disease.
Position Overview
The Business Manager will direct the overall office activities and affairs of the Institute
Executive Director. This position provides high-level administrative, operational, and
research support to enhance efficiency, manage strategic priorities, and ensure smooth
day-to-day operations for a growing, high-visibility research institute.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

•Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, especially in academic or research settings, strong written, verbal, and digital communication abilities and exercises sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive or confidential matters.
•Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
•Outstanding planning, organizational, and time management skills and detail-oriented with strong proofreading, editing, and formatting capabilities.
•Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and competing priorities and work independently, anticipate needs, and adapt in a fast-paced, dynamic
environment, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, digital platforms, and project management tools and comfortable using video conferencing platforms
and managing digital workflows.
Job Duties:
- Assisting Executive Director with directing, overseeing, monitoring, managing and arrangements for all of the ED business and office affairs and activities on and off campus including, but not limited to traveling.
- Responsible for monitoring, tracking, planning and coordinating overall activities and events of the Institute Executive Director on and off campus.
- Track all biotech, industry, state, and private business ideas and plans created to sustain & maintain financial stability for the institute.
- Manage, arrange, monitor the Executive Director’s daily operations, calendar, events, ensuring timeliness and attendance at meetings; send reminders and prepare brief context summaries; proactively screen the Executive Director's email inbox and maintain a dynamic “To-Do List” to manage delegated tasks and meet deadlines.
- Maintain and coordinate a running list of upcoming speaking engagements, travel, and external business responsibilities.
- Arrange complex travel arrangements and process reimbursements regularly (often weekly); Travel with the Executive Director as needed to provide on-site high-level administrative support at conferences and high-level meetings.
- Prepare and distribute letters of support for grants/projects leveraging ITR data; maintain a centralized tracking log on behalf of the Executive Director.
- Send correspondence on behalf of the Executive Director to internal teams, including Institute Cores, HABS-HD Cores and Projects.
- Edit and support the preparation of PowerPoint presentations, provide technical support for remote meetings, interviews, and digital engagements (e.g., webinars, podcasts).
- Prepare and update bio sketches; assist in formatting, preparing, and submitting manuscripts and grant materials; Manage a running log of submitted manuscripts, including submission status, review cycles, revisions, payments, and outcomes.
- Track board and consultant roles held by the Executive Director for disclosure and coordinate associated reimbursements; manage physical and digital files, including CVs, academic profiles, and key documents for the Executive Director and ITR operations.
- Assist in budget tracking, financial reporting, and compliance with institutional policies; Liaise with vendors and service providers, ensuring timely invoicing and payment and manage ED's operation and expense budget, best allocation and utilization of space and resources.

- Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
