Position Overview
The Director of Alumni Engagement & Advancement Communications is responsible for leading a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy for healthcare professionals while overseeing all advancement communications initiatives. This includes managing multi-channel outreach such as targeted email campaigns, text messaging, social media engagement, and promotional strategies for alumni events to strengthen connections and elevate institutional priorities. In addition, the Director carries a portfolio of 25–50 alumni leadership donors/prospects to deepen relationships and secure annual and special gifts. The role collaborates closely with Institutional Advancement, Colleges, Marketing/Communications, and Academic leadership to deliver an integrated alumni experience that combines strategic engagement with impactful storytelling across all platforms.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Expertise in alumni engagement and leadership annual giving strategies.
- Strong writing and editing skills for multi-channel communications.
- Ability to manage alumni platforms and marketing automation tools.
- Knowledge of communication compliance standards and accessibility.
- Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills across many audiences.
- Expertise in alumni engagement and leadership annual giving.

- Demonstrated experience in managing a portfolio of annual leadership gift prospects and closing gifts
- Ability to plan, organize, develop and execute strategies for alumni engagement, specifically for healthcare professionals.
- Ability to manage time, personnel, financial, and physical resources effectively
- Exceptional communication skills including content creation and design
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in health sciences or academic medical centers.
- Familiarity with CE/CME programming and alumni engagement platforms.
Job Duties
- Strategic Leadership & Planning: Develop and execute alumni engagement and communications plans aligned with institutional priorities, including defining audience segments and lifecycle journeys.
- Alumni Communications & Content Strategy: Own messaging frameworks and content pillars; manage alumni online platforms for networking, mentoring, and engagement; oversee email and SMS campaigns, ensuring segmentation, automation, and compliance.
- Portfolio Management & Philanthropy: Manage a portfolio of 25–50 leadership alumni donors/prospects; conduct qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; collaborate with gift officers on proposals and moves management.
- Data, Technology & Analytics: Ensure data integrity and reporting in Raiser’s Edge NXT; track engagement metrics; optimize strategies using analytics.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Advancement, Schools/Colleges, Marketing/Communications, and Academic leadership to deliver an integrated alumni experience and support institutional advancement goals.
