The University Union features 330,000 sq ft filled with campus services, dining options, meeting and event spaces, and programming, arts, and activities.
Position Overview
The purpose of this position is to serve an executive role in the administration of the University Union, responsible for all social, recreational, and educational programming and art development, which includes, but is not limited to, the University Program Council (UPC), Fine Art Series, the Art Gallery, the Union Arts Center and the Center for Student Affairs at Discovery Park.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in related field and five years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High level of attention to detail, initiative and customer service. Knowledge of event etiquette and protocol. Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changes and multitask. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Competent in Microsoft office. Ability to establish effective working relationships across the university and with outside vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree and five years of programming experience including large scale events. Experience with budget preparation and management. Strong supervisory skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Student development background

Job Duties:
- Oversee departmental unit of programming and arts including, the University Program Council (UPC), Center for Student Affairs at Discovery Park, Fine Arts Series, the Union Arts Center, Union Gallery, and other University Union programming to ensure it meets the goals of the department and mission of the institution. Initiate new events or update existing ones to ensure that the university is providing fresh programs and staying on the cutting edge of campus demands and national trends. Consistently review the procedures by which programs are selected for the department and work to develop collaborative programs with other entities at the institution.
- Effectively supervise fulltime employees, graduate assistants, and parttime student staff and leaders within the department.
- Work collaboratively with other Directors to establish policies and procedures that will enable the growth of the University Union and its programs. In the absence of the Executive Director, provide leadership and guidance for all employees within the University Union and work to solve problems and critically think about solutions to various obstacles or conflicts.
- Maintain the budget for all programming and arts areas which includes creation, oversight, and approval of all financial decisions related to the department. Recommend capital purchases as appropriate. Seek collaborations and alternative sources of funding that will enhance programs and provide opportunities for a greater variety of initiatives.
- Oversee and review contractual obligations made with third-party groups brought to campus through the programming department; understanding university policies and procedures, rider requirements, and state law applicable to contracts and other binding agreements.
- Organize University Union programs that are broadscale initiatives for the university, which include, but are not limited to First Flight Week, Tree Lighting, Late Night Breakfast, Union Fest, etc.
- Actively participate in monthly Union Board of Directors general and subcommittee meetings by providing leadership, information, and suggestions for the overall improvement of the University Union.
- Provide and utilize assessment data gained from the various areas to make strategic decisions about the future of programming within areas of responsibility.
- Ensure marketing efforts are reaching the intended audiences and having a positive impact on the attendance of events at the university. Oversee social media accounts to ensure that appropriate messaging is being used to entice students to events and advertise events for the campus community.
