Department Summary
The Office of Sponsored Programs, a division of the UNTHSC Research Office, provides pre-award, post-award, and accounting services for the support of faculty and other investigators while promoting compliance with federal and state agencies, private sponsor agreements, and UNTHSC research policies.
Position Overview
The Grants Manager will supervise and provide administrative oversight to research administrators on the post award team to include managing, guiding, and assisting sponsored projects administration with the day-to-day operations of the team. The manager will be responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff. This position supports the management of fiscal compliance in the area of award setup, coordination of time and effort certification, and development of standard operation procedures for the post award team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Possess knowledge of grant processes; including ability to review, administer and monitor grants for all sponsor requirements from award stage through close-out;
- Possess the ability to write and organize reports with skill in gathering required information;
- Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and organizational policies, procedures and compliance requirements;
- Knowledge of computer systems, and applications (PeopleSoft, Excel, Word, Outlook);
- Possess strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the skill and ability to supervise staff;
- Ability to exercise initiative, problem-solving skills and appropriate decision-making process

Job Duties:
- Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff and ensures staff remains knowledgeable of changes in federal, state, and University guidelines, policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Manages fiscal compliance in the area of award/agreement setup and administration for sponsored projects in collaboration with the Office of Grants Contracts and Accounting. Develops and delivers post award sponsored projects training for staff and campus. Helps coordinate Time and Effort certification processes.
- Manages, guides and assists sponsored projects administration and the day-to-day operations of the team to initiate, prioritize, and ensure timely completion of projects.
- Responsible for procedure development for the administration of sponsored projects.
