Department Summary
We are the Auxiliary Maintenance Team within the Maintenance division of UNT Facilities. Our team performs the routine and preventative maintenance that is vital to the resident and dining experience within our resident halls, dining facilities and many of our Sorority chapter locations. We work in close coordination and cooperation with our partners within the Housing and Auxiliary Services Department to make residence life our number one priority. Auxiliary Maintenance is a culmination of several trades including structural, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and access control. We currently maintain facilities across 15 resident halls, 6 dining facilities and 7 Sorority Houses plus the Center for Sorority-Fraternity Life and the UNT Welcome Center. Our goal is to provide the most reliable, efficient and outstanding service to our residents, who rely on our maintaining their living and dining spaces so they can focus on their education. We take great pride in what we do, and strive for excellence in service daily.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for intermediate skilled craftwork that involves heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) work. Duties include installation, maintenance, repair, and service of building systems and requires advanced skills in a primary craft and may require limited competency in a secondary craft.
Representative Tasks:
* Performs routine maintenance of building and electrical/mechanical support systems of the boiler systems.
* Troubleshoots and repairs HVAC/R systems including: AHU, reheat, coils, thermostats, and valves.
* Inspects equipment to detect excessive noise and heat; cleans carbon deposits, pitch and grease from fans, vents and ducts.
* Replaces and/or repairs minor problems, electric motors and related equipment, ice machine problems, minor steam systems, and pump problems.
* Adjusts valves to regulate temperature of lubrication oil and flow of water through system; moves controls to regulate speed of fans and to adjust vents and ducts.
* Records gauge readings, repairs completed, and time lost because of inoperative equipment.
* This position will primarily work in Residential and Dining buildings across campus.
* Performs daily routine inspections of building main mechanical room equipment.
* Troubleshoots, monitors, and makes minor adjustments to building automation controls.
* Other duties as assigned.
* May be assigned to the on call rotation.
** This position is considered to be essential personnel, and may require working overtime, which could include nights and weekends as needed. May be required to work specific weekend events a few times a year
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma/GED equivalent and three years' of experience in related maintenance/repair field. Substitution of education for experience allowed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge of and skill in use of standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of general maintenance task.
* Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance; knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and working drawings.
* Ability to use basic shop math applications.
* Ability to locate and identify problems in appropriate building system or equipment and to plan and execute necessary repairs.
* Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work which includes lifting and crawling, and to remain outdoors in inclement weather.
* Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
Preferred Qualifications
Section 608 Refrigeration Technician Certification.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Possession of a valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.

- Performs preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment including changing belts, greasing bearings, washing condenser coils, etc.
- Assists other techs with repairs to mechanical systems and gains knowledge and experience of troubleshooting and repairs.
- Performs daily inspections of building mechanical rooms and reports findings.
- Consistently completes expected duties in a timely manner without constant supervision. Accepts responsibility for own work and follows through on commitments.
