Department Summary

Student Accounting is deeply committed to delivering the highest quality of innovative student account and financial services to the UNT community, helping ensure UNT’s enrollment and financial success. Our team is responsible for assessing and collecting all tuition and fees, processing waivers, exemptions, veterans' educational benefits, third-party sponsorships, tuition benefit programs, refunds, departmental deposit and financial services, and tax reporting.

Position Overview

This position leads various accounting, reconciliation, and financial control functions for over 600M within the Student Financial Operations unit of Student Accounting. The position is responsible for ensuring reconciliation for all transactions between the student financials subledger and the university bank accounts by working with the UNT Controller team.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree with 3 years' work experience in accounting, billing/receivables or related business or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

A successful candidate will have a stable track record of successfully utilizing large scale financial/student data to predict trends, assess needs, and make decisions. In addition, the successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of compliance matters, financial controls (with ability to present successful controls they have implemented, if requested, during the interview process), and have a consistent employment history showcasing their ability to work collaboratively across teams.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for delivering exceptional service to all internal and external customers and campus partners. Maintains positive interactions with others. Provides professional, clear and accurate verbal and written communication. Resolves customers issues, offers alternatives or submits them to the appropriate personnel following the chain of command. Alerts supervisor(s) of escalating issues.
  • Fosters an environment of collaboration and respect for others. Promotes a positive work environment for all team members. Demonstrates a commitment to the mission and vision of Student Accounting, the Division of Enrollment, and UNT. Promotes a positive work environment for the entire department. Demonstrates positive engagement in the department through active participation in meetings, within committees, and by assisting others.

  • Identifies, researches, and reconciles monthly accounting variances and discrepancies in relation to transactions through the Student Financials Subledger.
  • Serves as a liaison between Student Accounting and the UNT Controller teams regarding accounting and reconciliation matters related to the Student Financials subledger.
  • Prepares and enters journal entries as needed for corrections to rows crossing the Student Financials subledger and impacting the university bank accounts.
  • Must maintain a working knowledge of the PeopleSoft system, navigate the system, comprehend and explain student accounts, troubleshoot issues and understand processes which affect the student account.
  • Completes assignments accurately and in a timely manner with minimal follow-up required. Demonstrates initiative by taking action to provide customer service within scope of position and actively seeks additional assignments from supervisor.
  • Maintains effective and compliant procedures and processes for Student Financials subledger reconciliation efforts. Provides routine updates and communication to offices within the UNT community regarding program status and outcomes.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm with overtime as needed to achieve unit goals or during peak seasons.
