The Department of Chemistry offers various opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students interested in cutting-edge technology and research. Chemistry is the study of matter and its reactions, provides a basic understanding needed to deal with a variety of societal and scientific needs, including energy, food production, health and medicine, biotechnology, new materials, environmental concerns, new processes, and national defense. Chemistry is a science central to the study of medicine, biology and modern physics.

Position Overview
The purpose of this position is to maintain stockroom inventory, distribute chemicals, laboratory equipment, and train and co-supervise student assistants. Maintain all records for stockroom inventory, issue receipts, stock control and purchasing in relation to Chemistry Department. Assists Stockroom Manager in the processing of purchase orders and related documents. Cover all daily stockroom duties during Stockroom Manager's absence, i.e.: days off, vacation or illness
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma/GED equivalent and four years of experience in inventory, purchasing or related field. Substitution of education for experience allowed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Skill in making mathematical calculations and computations. Ability to keep records, to assemble and organize data, and to prepare and submit reports in acceptable formats. Supervisory skills. Experience in inventory stock control which includes purchasing, receiving and distributing stock. Experience with computer data base systems and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of State of Texas regulations and systems for purchasing will be considered a plus
Job Duties
- Orders, receives, checks and verifies acceptability of inventory and special order items as to condition, quality and conformance with terms of purchase and Pcard orders. Maintains inventory stock levels to minimize shortages. Plan space allocation for existing items and for future requirements. Stores commodities, apparatus, supplies and equipment. Maintains automated and physical inventory records and files utilizing computerized inventory control system
- Distributes chemicals, laboratory equipment, supplies and controlled items over the counter or through personal delivery
- Co-supervises part time student worker when one is available. Assigns work and trains employees as required
- Works with the University Environmental Health and Safety Officer regarding pick up of hazardous chemicals and related items. Stores and dispenses chemicals for research. Maintains and inventory for tax free alcohol for the Bureau of Alcohol and Firearms and for controlled substances
- Assist with the annual consumable supplies Inventory required by Texas State Auditors. Keep inventory stocked with adequate supplies
- Assist with annual capital equipment inventory required by Texas State Auditors
- Other duties as assigned by Stockroom Manager
