Position Overview
This role is responsible for overseeing Design Works, the UNT University Union's retail design and print shop. This position oversees daily shop operations, ensures that all produced materials meet established quality standards, and promotes the shop’s services to customers. This position must exercise fiscal responsibility and work to assist the Associate Director in developing budgets for Design Works. This position will also assist in the coordination of marketing priorities (including advertising and promotional materials) for the Union and some areas of operation.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field and two years of experience in communications, marketing, advertising, or public relations; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
Ability to think creatively, organize tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines.
Ability to visually inspect products in multiple formats and assess and improve.
Ability to coordinate and supervise the work of others.
Skill in communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
Skill in talking to others to convey information effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
Ability to operate computers, large production printers, laminators, and other print-related equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite; proficiency with Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign preferred.
Knowledge and experience with print process, including but not limited to: setting up files, paper stock, and print production.
Experience with retail operations and point of sales systems.

Job Duties
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Design Works shop, including but not limited to: customer service, equipment management, inventory, and scheduling of staff.
- Familiarity with graphic design and print best practices to enhance the overall services and products produced.
- Collaborate with the Union Marketing team on developing new initiatives to support UCE programs and services.
- Demonstrate ability to recruit, hire, and train student employees as needed for continuous operational success at Design Works.
- Able to assist directly with design requests to support UCE and other campus partners including but not limited to: signage, flyers, and other publication materials.
- Evaluate shop services and retail items to identify opportunities for new revenue streams.
- Assist the Associate Director with long term retail strategy to ensure smooth and continuous operation in line with strategic goals and fiscal responsibility.
- Supervise staff and create schedules in advance to align with shop hours in order to cover required areas and stay within provided budgets.
- Demonstrates ability to address performance issues with student employees as they occur, promptly and professionally, within UNT and departmental guidelines.
- Monitor daily shop practices to ensure compliance with safety guidelines while upholding consistent quality control for all products and services.
- Oversee all point‑of‑sale operations by accurately processing payments, maintaining billing records, and ensuring proper financial documentation for shop transactions.
