Department Summary
The Office of Sponsored Programs, a department under the Division of Research and Innovation at UNTHSC, provides pre-award, post-award, and contract services to support faculty and other investigators while promoting compliance with federal and state agencies, private sponsor agreements, and UNTHSC research policies.
Position Overview
The Lead Award Analyst will work closely with the Associate Director of Pre Award and internal Pre Award staff to assess long term strategies, operations, and internal processes. Under the direction of the Associate Director, this position will assist in leading the efforts of the Pre Award team to review proposal submissions for compliance and provide support to campus research support staff and faculty. Mentor, train, and assist in the oversight of Pre Award team members. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and six (6) year of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
This individual makes critical and complex decisions with a high level of initiative and judgment in a variety of situations. This individual must be able to engage, coach, and influence team members, faculty, and other key stakeholders, facilitate an environment of trust and respect between team members, maintain a broad network of internal working relationships, and have up to date knowledge of applicable law and federal, state, institutional, and sponsor guidelines, including but not limited to FARS, DFARS, 2 CFR 200, and UGMS.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced training and/or certification in research development or sponsored research administration. Experience and working knowledge of grant administration, including federal and state regulations. Experience and solid understanding of the role of grants in higher education.

Job Duties:
- Review proposals to ensure that they are in compliance with University policy, sponsor regulations, and compliant with federal and state law.
- Manage proposal submission including, but not limited to, ensuring the accuracy of budgets, institutional commitments, securing appropriate internal reviews and approvals for regulatory compliance, documenting collaborative arrangements.
- Supports investigators in responding to JustInTime requests and assists PreAward Team.
- Ensures files are complete for awarded applications and secures missing information from principal investigators and/or administrators.
- Lead PreAward negotiations with sponsor representatives.
- Continuously develops and maintains a strong working knowledge of federal rules and regulations that govern research grants as well as stays informed about sponsor terms and conditions for submitting and administering grant awards.
- Tracks the status of pending applications and follows up with investigators regarding the review/funding status of applications.
- Assist with development and conduct Pre Award training programs, workshops, seminars and other outreach.
- Performs other related duties as assigned, including support on special projects, as required.
