Department Summary
The Department of Political Science at UNT is a highly productive department with 30 faculty members who are committed to excellence in both teaching and research. It offers BA, MA, and PhD degrees. Faculty in the department have previously edited the American Political Science Review, International Studies Quarterly, Politics and Religion, Politics, Groups, and Identities, and the Journal of Political Science Education,. UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. Position Overview
The faculty member will be expected to teach our core undergraduate American politics courses (2305 and 2306 classes). The typical teaching load is 4/4 but with a teaching release for service to the department (i.e. a 3/3 load with service requirement). The faculty member will also contribute to advising students in our legal studies minor and certificate programs and is expected to contribute to the law-related upper division courses, including American Legal Systems, and the three course sequence in Constitutional Law. Responsibilities at the college and university level include coordinating with other advisors and oversight of the Legal Studies Certificate and Legal Studies Minor. Ideal candidates will be able to contribute to our dynamic student body, understand the importance of a holistic student experience, and connect students to alumni working with both groups to facilitate student opportunities for lifelong learning.
Minimum Qualifications
A master’s degree in political science or other law-related discipline, or a Juris Doctor degree (J.D.) from accredited institutions are required.
Preferred Qualifications
A PhD. is preferred although ABD students may also be considered depending on their credentials. Those with experience in public law and legal studies, teaching excellence, undergraduate advising, and programmatic service are preferred.
