Department Summary

The College of Public Affairs and Health Sciences (PAHS) at the University of North Texas prepares graduates to address complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public and mental health, exercise physiology and urban design.

We have nine academic departments with undergraduate and graduate programs, the Kristin Farmer Autism Center, the Center for Public Management, the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, the UNT Work Inclusion and Supported Employment (UNTWISE) program, UNT ELEVAR, and several professional development and clinical training programs to facilitate careers to address a global society.

PAHS Advising guides students from start to finish, helping them explore careers, choose their major, select courses, meet university requirements, prepare for graduation and more to ensure they have a meaningful undergraduate experience at UNT.

Position Overview

The College of Public Affairs and Health Sciences (PAHS) Academic Advisor provides support for student recruitment, retention and graduation of undergraduate students in the UNT College of Public Affairs & Health Sciences. This role involves guiding students through degree requirements, course planning and graduation processes while promoting student engagement and academic success. The advisor serves as a subject matter expert for PAHS majors, supports curriculum development and helps develop other materials for student success.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, or professional academic advising.

* Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people verbally and in writing.

Job Duties

  • Advises students on UNT-PAHS curriculum, degree programs, academic requirements, policies, and procedures. Uses provided technology and resources to ensure continuous accurate and timely advisement. 
  • Facilitates advising interactions across various modalities, encouraging student problem-solving, decision-making, planning, and goal-setting. Makes appropriate referrals to further assist student progress. Maintains advising records and documentation for continuity. 
  • Uses advising approaches, strategies, and knowledge of relevant needs of student population to deliver effective advisement according to institutional and college-level vision and mission. Takes part in on-going professional engagement and development 
  • Communicates and undertakes tasks assigned in a collaborative and constructive manner to support the needs of students and the advising office, as determined by supervisor. 

Physical Requirements

Communicating with others to exchange information.
Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

Police Officer II

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Police Officer II. This position performs all duties normally associated with employment as licensed police officer, including, preventive patrol, arrest, search seizure, traffic enforcement, crash investigation, public safety and service, investigation of criminal incidents, and maintaining public order on the university campus and surrounding area. Work involves patrolling day and night all campus areas, buildings and parking lots. The UNT Dallas Police Department is responsible for providing law enforcement and security services for the University of North Texas at Dallas Main Campus and The College of Law. Police Officers must exercise good judgment and discretion in dealing with violators of laws and University regulations. Police Officers may be required to work special assignments, special events or be on call. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: Conducts regular patrols inside and outside of buildings, parking lots, and around the campus grounds to watch for criminal activity, unsecured buildings, fires, and any other unusual conditions or irregularities. Investigates reports of criminal behavior and university regulations. Arrests violators and files appropriate charges where and when such action is appropriate. Issues citations for parking and traffic violations. conducts traffic accident investigations. Prepare written and oral reports on completed investigative activities and calls.
