Department Summary

The UNT Police Department is looking for a Detective to join our Criminal Investigative Services team.

Working with the UNT Police Department will be an experience you won’t get elsewhere. The UNT campus, including our police department, is a tight-knit community that supports our students, faculty, and staff. With over 40,000 students, UNT is the third largest university in Texas. Many of our officers are UNT graduates or students because we highly value education and training. Our 48 state-certified police officers enforce municipal and state laws and UNT policies while providing service to campus 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
The department has full law enforcement jurisdiction within the UNT campus, city of Denton, and any county where UNT maintains property. We proudly serve these areas, taking time to get to know our community and partnering with them to provide a safe environment for their learning and professional development.

Position Overview

The Detective Corporal is assigned to the Criminal Investigative Services and is responsible for:

Obtaining and serving arrest and search warrants.
Testifying in court
Investigating narcotic activity
Recovering and returning stolen property to the rightful owner
Conducting forensic examination of crime scenes
Submitting evidence to the crime lab
Preparing and filing prosecution reports with the Denton County District Attorney's Office.
Collecting and submitting reports on crime statistics.
Maintaining records and processing public information requests
Assisting other law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations.

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet the minimum requirements for Police Officer classification and two years of related experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

TCOLE Intermediate Peace Officer Proficiency Certificate

Preferred Qualifications

Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field
TCOLE Intermediate Peace Officer Proficiency Certificate
TCOLE Instructor Proficiency Certificate
Three years of police investigative experience
Or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
