Department Summary
The UNT Dallas College of Law is an ABA Fully Approved public law school in downtown Dallas with a fulltime day division and a part-time evening division. The College of Laws goals are: (1) widening access to legal education for those who could be superb legal professionals but who cannot realistically access a legal education given factors including location, cost, and the current role of the LSAT in admission to and financing of law school; (2) providing an educational program focused on excellence in developing practice related competencies, through a curriculum mapped to those competencies and using best instructional practices, including multiple formative and summative assessment throughout, engaged class design, and a spectrum of experiential education; (3) creating opportunity for our students by keeping tuition and debt low and producing graduates with high value and ability in multiple segments of the market for legal services; (4) becoming a national leader in advancing understanding of best legal education practices, of professional formation, and of the relationship between legal education and the evolving practice and business of law; (5) improving access to justice for underserved legal needs; and (6) serving as a valuable partner in civic engagement with the City of Dallas and the North Texas region..
Position Overview
All UNT Dallas College of Law students are required to participate in an advocacy competition in order to graduate from law school.
The Appointment will be for a Professor of Practice in Advocacy. Reporting the Dean of the Law School, the Professor of Practice is responsible for planning and organizing events involving 30 or more participants. The Professor of Practice will coordinate, train, and supervise coaches that will work with the students. The Professor of Practice will mentor and coach trial advocates and students while collaborating with other faculty and staff.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor and two years of practice experience; or Juris Doctor and equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

- Willingness to work flexible hours to accommodate institutional needs.
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office.

- Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions within the framework of broad goals and objectives.
- Ability to conceptualize, plan, and organize multiple programs and assignments effectively.
- Ability to work on complex and confidential tasks utilizing judgment, tact, and resourcefulness.
- Ability to research, gather data, compile information, and accurately prepare reports.

- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with students or in a higher education setting.
- Experience working with moot court, mock trial, or other law school competition team, either as a student or a coach.

Job Duties:
- Designing and managing the School of Law's advocacy programs, including the competition teams such as Mock Trial, Moot Court, and others;
- Perform service as a member of the College of Law faculty.
- Collaborating with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and the Director of Experiential Programs in evaluating the College of Law's current advocacy skills program and developing a vision and plan for this aspect of the College of Laws curriculum;
- Coaching and teaching students in these programs and any other courses related thereto as well as in the Advocacy Skills Development course and other related courses as needed (expectation is to teach approximately 6 credit hours per year, including summer as well as fall and spring semesters);
- Creating and monitoring budgets for the Mock Trial, Moot Court, and any other external competition programs, including making any budgetary requests, competition selections, team selection, and coaching duties (including recruiting faculty coaches) needed for the programs;
- Recruiting, training, and supervising coaches for the College of Laws advocacy competition teams;
