Position Overview
The Sports Dietitian position will oversee the nutritional needs of assigned teams by conducting individual and team nutrition education and counseling to ensure optimal wellness and sport performance. The Sports Dietitian will collaborate with coaches, athletic trainers, strength coaches, and other support staff as a part of sport specific performance team to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to student athlete wellbeing.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or related field and one year related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of sports nutrition principles to support athletic performance, recovery, and overall health in collegiate athletes.
Strong communication skills to educate and motivate student-athletes individually and in team settings.
Ability to collaborate effectively with Sports Nutrition Director, coaches, athletic trainers, strength staff, and campus dining to implement nutrition strategies and fueling programs.
Experience developing and managing performance nutrition programs, including menu planning, hydration protocols, and refueling stations.
Commitment to evidence-based, ethical, and NCAA-compliant nutrition practices that promote athlete well-being and academic success.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: A minimum of one years experience working with collegiate athletes at the NCAA division one level. Masters degree in sports nutrition or exercise science/physiology
Required License/Registration/Certifications
A current Registered Dietitian with the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Licensure through the State of Texas upon hire. Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) or Certified Sports Nutritionist (CISSN) preferred.
Job Duties
- Oversee assigned athletics teams to ensure suitable nutrition presence, provision, and growth.
- Conduct team talks around general sports nutrition.
- Order, stock, conduct inventory of team fueling station, game day fueling needs, nutritional supplements, RTDs
- Work with local restaurant vendors regarding team meals as needed and works with hotels restaurants regarding meals during away trips.
- Provide specific supplements/vitamins depending on blood work and diet analysis. Counsel and consult with student athletes on nutrition to support both health and performance.
- Collaborate with coaches, athletic trainers, strength coaches, and other support staff as a part of sport specific performance team to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to student athlete wellbeing.
- Conduct grocery store tours, cooking classes, etc.
- Establish and maintain knowledge of and compliance with specific NCAA, American Conference, and institution rules that relate to this position.
- Serve as nutrition resource for students on meal plans to guide and assist with food allergy safe options in the dining halls.
- Work towards establishing volunteer rotation hours with established nutrition departments in DFW.
- Serve as a preceptor in teaching and developing dietetic interns.
- Continue to expand upon sports nutrition knowledge, translating the latest scientific evidence into practical sports nutrition recommendations for student athletes.
