Department Summary
The Gibson D. Lewis Health Science Library supports the education, research, patient care, and community service missions of the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) by meeting the information needs of faculty, students, staff, and the local health sciences community.
Position Overview
The Gibson D. Lewis Health Science Library Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Librarian to join our team.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in library or information science and two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work successfully in a collaborative, team based environment.
- Strong presentation skills Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Health information programming or community health education experience.
- Strong service orientation and ability to work effectively with colleagues, health professionals and consumers in all communities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree from an ALA accredited program.
- Two years experience in a reference or research related position (Academic health science/medical library experience not required, but also preferred).
- Advanced literature searching skills.
- Background in customer or public service.
- Experience serving as a librarian liaison to an academic department.
- Experience building online tutorials and curriculum.
- Experience working with online students
Job Duties
- Works as part of the Library Education, Research, and Engagement team supporting the overall reference, education, and liaison program by providing in house, specialized reference services, and serving as a liaison to an academic department.
- Participation in the collection development functions of Lewis Library representing assigned liaison areas including consideration of resources as well as promotion of library services to academic departments.
- Partners with faculty and librarians with the goal of embedding library education into the course curriculum and further developing student information literacy skills.
- Prepare, develop, and teach content relevant to evidence based practice and information literacy to users online, in person, as part of a group both in the classroom and individually as needed.
- Provide individual and group instruction to users.
- Represents the library by actively participating in library committees, engaging with professional organizations, attending conferences, and involvement in campus committees as necessary, all in support of the library’s strategic endeavors.
