Position Overview
This position is responsible for performing advanced skilled finishing tasks in printing or bindery. Duties include setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining complex equipment. Additional duties may include assisting with overseeing production runs including scheduling and assigning work. Duties and tasks are frequently nonroutine. Resolves most questions, including some where only limited standardization exists. Refers only the most complex issues to higher levels.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma and three years' of bindery services experience. Substitution of education for experience allowed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Skill in the operation of related bindery equipment. Excellent time management and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of the functions and capabilities of bindery equipment.
- Knowledge of methods, techniques, and equipment used in the bindery processes. Has a keen eye for quality control and be able to identify errors.
- Ability to quickly detect mechanical malfunctioning of bindery equipment. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to make computations and tabulations Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Job Duties:
- Operates equipment efficiently and accurately.
- Interprets and works from dummy, furnished sample or customer approved proof.
- Understands and carries out oral and written instructions. Performs without supervision when necessary. Communicates in a clear and professional manner.
- Understands and follows procedures for production within the different departmental areas.
- Operates multiple pieces of equipment satisfactorily.
- Maintains accurate time and production records.
- Follows department procedures for location, use and storage of press/bindery supplies and equipment. Maintains good attendance and punctuality. Knowledge of university and departmental policies and procedures as related to job performance.
- Operates equipment with minimal spoilage, quality conscious at all times. Maintains equipment properly, performing scheduled preventative maintenance. Performs minor repairs to equipment when needed.
- Organizes projects and sets priorities in order to carry out assigned tasks in a timely manner. Seeks to improve professional development through educational and professional training. Maintains good driving record and appropriate license.
- Demonstrates a willingness to be a team player and maintains good relations with coworkers, customers and vendors. Promotes the university in all job-related areas.
- Maintains equipment for safe operation by keeping guards in place. Follows safety rules when handling chemicals. Correct or contact appropriate persons to correct all unsafe equipment or situations.
