Department Summary
The Office of Marketing & Communications tells HSC’s stories, using creative ways to engage internal audiences, prospective students and community members. We map out and implement strategic marketing and communication plans in collaboration with HSC departments and schools to showcase the university and its work in education, research and health care.
Position Overview
This position is a seasoned writer and publicity strategist who is experienced in generating compelling, persuasive copy and story opportunities for a variety of external communications vehicles. The ideal candidate is proficient in AP style and leads the development and execution of HSCs Public Relations action plan.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-Ability to interact with a wide range of UNTHSC personalities.
-Ability to synthesize highly technical and scientific data and present it in an understandable format to a lay audience.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in a similar position at an institution of higher education or health care organization.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties:
- % - Research, write, edit and proofread stories under the direction of senior management. Provide timely updates to the storytracking database and work collaboratively with other marketing and communications staff.Track and deliver public relations success metrics to be included in the departments scorecard. - ()
- % - Develop and manage standard news announcements for internal and external consumption regarding important HSC events, successes and more. - ()
- % - Develop and maintain stakeholder communications and media lists, as well as a costeffective and integrated news distribution strategy aligned with key audiences (e.g. prospective students and employees, donors, alumni). - ()
- % - Manage/monitor media tracking software.Provide support for external speaking engagements as needed. - ()
- % - Develop a calendar for media pitches/news releases, working with internal stakeholders and communications team on relevant/upcoming stories. - ()
- % - Monitor situations that may adversely impact the institutions business reputation, and, as required, recommend and develop an appropriate communications response.Assist with crisis communication as needed. - ()
- % - Provide support for external speaking engagements as needed. - ()
