Position Overview
The Senior Contract Analyst plays a critical role in the triage, analysis, negotiation, and management of all research and sponsored program contracts processed by the Research Contracting unit. This position supports both the Division of Research and Innovation and university-wide contracting needs, ensuring timely and compliant execution of complex agreements. The Analyst will oversee negotiations for standard research contracts, maintain and optimize contract management databases, and collaborate closely with the existing Senior Contract Analyst and the Director of Research Contracts. Responsibilities include interpreting and negotiating contract language, disseminating key terms and conditions to stakeholders, and ensuring accurate entry of information into knowledge management systems. Given the evolving regulatory landscape, this role requires deep expertise in federal agency grant and contract regulations, as well as contract law. The addition of this position is essential to reduce delays, mitigate institutional risk, and support the university’s expanding research enterprise.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, Higher Education or related field and five years of related professional work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Paralegal or transactional contract experience.
* Extensive knowledge of federal agency grant/contract regulations.
* Considerable knowledge of contract law.
* Superior writing, speaking and general communications skills.
* Ability to negotiate and to synthesize many kinds of information effectively in pursuit of general and specific objectives.
* General understanding of the function and mission of higher education and specific knowledge of the dynamics of a university.
* Knowledge of and facility in using electronic data storage and communications systems.
* Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
* Knowledge of safety, security, and confidentiality precautions appropriate to work performed.
Preferred Qualifications
Paralegal certification/degree preferred.
Job Duties
- Assist with research contract execution, including assisting Director with negotiation, drafting and execution of all incoming and outgoing research contracts
- Review legal contracts to analyze for terms & conditions relevant to IP, business law, federal and state regulations
- Serves as liaison between UNT faculty, research divisions, academic departments to ensure timely and customer-focused support for execution of research contracting.
- Assist the Director with developing, managing and updating research contracting procedures and processes.
- Assist with research contacting database management and reporting, ensuring accuracy in reporting.
- Negotiate and communicate features of a contract with external and internal parties.
- Identify and incorporate continuous changes in federal and state policy and procedures to maintain compliance in research contracting.
- Communicates regularly with Director of Research Contracting and other research administration staff to ensure efficient and effective research contracting operations. Other duties and special projects as assigned by supervisor.
