Department Summary

The College of Science (COS) at the University of North Texas consists of the departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Data Analytics & Statistics, and the interdisciplinary program Teach North Texas (TNT). COS also serves two of the universities institutes of research excellence: the BioDiscovery Institute (BDI) and the Advanced Environmental Research Institute (AERI). This position assists the College of Science with a variety of tasks related to post award compliance of sponsored research projects including review and approval of expenditures and other budget related tasks as assigned.

Position Overview

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, auditing, public administration, or related field and five years of relevant administrative work or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Work independently on assigned proposals and awards, but work as part of a team of central and distributed research administrators to support common goals. Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills. Strong time management and problem solving skills. Prior knowledge of pre or postaward administration regulations and procedures. General administrative experience with budgets, purchasing, payroll, travel with specific skill in budget planning, analysis, and reconciliation. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Reliable judgement, discretion, and strong ethical standards.

Job Duties

  • Prepare reports for Dean/Associate Deans such as monthly award and proposal reports based on GCA published data, spending reports etc. 
  • Maintain productive working relationships with pre and post award staff in Grants and Contracts Administration and within the ADR office. 
  • Performs all other duties as assigned. 
  • Reconcile sponsored projects on a monthly basis. Reconcile purchases and payroll on sponsored projects to ensure compliance. 
  • Process cost transfers and budget revisions for sponsored projects. 
  • Work with college and departmental staff and researchers to monitor and plan sponsored project spending. 
  • Review Deficit Reports from GCA and work with researchers and staff to identify causes and resolve deficits in an appropriate and timely manner. 
  • Attend professional development events regularly, these include internal workshops, external trainings, conferences, professional memberships, etc.
