Department Summary

The College of Education (COE) prepares professionals and scholars who contribute to the advancement of education, health, and human development. The mission of the Student Advising Office is to:

  • Support the University of North Texas and the College of Education by providing developmental academic advising.
  • Assist students in the development of academic plans in accordance with their life goals.
  • Partner with students to assist them in their pursuit of academic success in their chosen fields.

Position Overview

This position is responsible for the implementation and management of program and related activities/events, and program assessment. This position coordinates, facilitates and implements scholarship data processing and awarding. This position will also serve as the primary program liaison and will coordinate programs involving undergraduate recruitment, enrollment, and advising/course planning.

This position will assist in managing the administrative operations and customer related services for the College of Education Student Advising Office. Coordinates activities and acts as a department / area liaison for the handling issues that are very sensitive and confidential for the College of Education Academic Associate Dean. Duties have a substantial variety and are often not routine.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to execute multiple projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education in an advising office, advanced Microsoft Office experience, customer service experience.
  • Experience in awarding scholarships.
  • Experience in UNT systems such as EIS, Salesforce, Appointment Manager, Navigate, Canvas.

Job Duties:

  • Processes administrative document retention process.
  • Responsible for correspondence and works with department and department head in processing special student communications. Reserves event spaces for orientation, PSAS, Preview Day and All events. Answers SAO emails as appropriate.
  • Coordinates team support for new student orientation, recruitment events, Freshman/FTIC, all university initiatives. Assists students to register for orientations.
  • Coordinates appointment management systems and works with department to ensure adjustments and communications are working correctly.
  • Responsible for the administrative operations and oversees front desk, personnel and training workers. Works with department reviewing processes and implementing approved changes. Provide desk coverage as needed and resolve any situations in a timely manner.
  • Be able to clearly articulate departmental programs and departmental processes to all constituents. Updates knowledge of programs and degrees.
  • Facilitates and implements COE scholarship data processing and awarding.
  • Coordinates and oversees COE commencement events.
  • Responsible for department purchasing.
  • Assists with department inventory (equipment and office supply).

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with occasional flexible schedule to work weekends or evenings as needed.
