Department Summary
The office of Orientation and Transition Programs is a department within the Division of Student Affairs and provides new students, continuing students, and family members with the tools necessary to make a smooth transition to UNT and toward graduation. The mission of our office is to be an evolving office for students and their families that facilitates the successful transition into the UNT community by: helping them connect to the University, creating opportunities, and building relationships. Our department consists of multiple areas, including mentoring, new student programs, orientation, parent and family programs, transfer student programs, and more.
Position Overview
Work is comprised of supporting student and family transition to UNT (40%), student leader advising and support (35%), supporting learning opportunities for parents and family members (15%) and evaluating program and student learning outcomes (10%). Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
· Support all programs and initiatives originating from the office of Orientation and Transition Programs, including: Freshman and Transfer Orientation, Parent and Family Orientation, UNT Parent Association, and other first year student programs
· Assist with the development and support of the Orientation Team (approximately 50 students)
· Serve as a live-in professional staff member in the residence hall used for student orientation
· Provide responsible leadership and role model good judgement as a summer intern to the Orientation Team
· Assist the Coordinator of Parent Programs with providing support to the UNT Parent Association membership drive and merchandise sales during orientation, including:
o Conducting regular inventory or supplies, maintaining accurate databases, and assisting with membership recruitment
· Assist with program assessment projects evaluating student feedback and composing executive summaries to provide insights to program staff.
· Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with other university departments and off-campus community partners
· Assistance with special projects is expected
· Evening and weekend hours will be required
· Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Completed at least one year of a master's program in higher education, student affairs, college student personnel or a similar field
- Preference given to applicants with experience and/or background in orientation, retention, and transition
- Candidate must be a part of the NODA internship process

- Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to students

Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties
- Assist with the supervision and development of Orientation Leaders and Student Coordinators (approximately 45 students)
- Provide responsible leadership and role model good judgement as a supervisor to Orientation Leaders
- Plan and Execute the Team and Professional Development Days for the
- Assist with program assessment projects evaluating both student learning outcomes and program satisfaction, and compose executive summaries for events as instructed
- Serve in an on-call capacity for our overnight orientation programs for incoming students
- Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with other university departments and off-campus community partners
- Other duties as assigned
