Department Summary
The Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism is an ACEJMC-accredited school with the only professionally accredited journalism master's program in the four-state region of Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arkansas. The school is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, in one of the largest media markets in the country. We offer journalism classes in public relations, advertising, print/digital, broadcast/digital, and photojournalism. The Mayborn enrolls approximately 1,000 undergraduate students and 75 graduate students. Graduates have won many national and international awards, including Pulitzer Prizes. The school offers students multi-platform professional opportunities including the award-winning North Texas Daily student newspaper, Denton Public Access TV, and student-run photography and ad/PR agencies. The school also hosts the annual Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference, the nationally acclaimed conference for aspiring and experienced writers, journalists and authors.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. Position Overview
The successful candidate will have expertise in media buying and planning, with a focus on new, digital, social, and programmatic media, as well as analytics. We seek a colleague committed to advancing industry practices in authenticity, representation. Candidates with experience working on ad campaigns in multiple languages, in addition to English, are encouraged to apply.
With the launch of the Advertising + Brand Strategy degree in Fall 2023, this position offers opportunities to shape the program’s future. We welcome candidates eager to collaborate with faculty to enhance a curriculum centered on ethical, equitable advertising that authentically represents the evolving American landscape.
This position carries a 4-4 teaching load, including advising the Ad Team for the annual NSAC competition. We seek a new media technology expert with proficiency in digital advertising through writing-driven strategies such as search optimization, content marketing, and campaign/digital analytics. Candidates must have experience creating and evaluating multicultural advertising campaigns and possess the ability to develop strategy and write authentically for diverse audiences.
Minimum Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have a master’s degree in advertising, strategic communication, or a related field by the time of appointment. Applicants with a BA, BS, or BFA in advertising or a related field, along with substantial industry experience, will also be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have industry experience in social media campaigns, with a plus for those who have worked directly with influencers and brand activations. Preference will be given to those who have developed or executed campaigns that effectively reach and celebrate diverse audiences. Preferred candidates will also have a foundational understanding of AI's role in data-driven marketing, creative automation, audience targeting, and ethical considerations, with the ability to integrate these applications into advertising education.
