Department Summary
The College of Science at the University of North Texas consists of the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics and the interdisciplinary programs Teach North Texas, BioDiscovery Institute, Advanced Environmental Research Institute, and Interdisciplinary Program in Applied and Computational Science. The college offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in science and mathematics, currently serving more than 4,000 majors. Our faculty are world-class researchers in science and mathematics, and the college faculty and staff work together to provide excellent support to our students in their academic education and professional development.

Position Overview
To provide academic and career advising services to students in the College of Science. This position may assist in the coordination of departmental projects and/or educational programs in collaboration with higher level staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong presentation skills; strong problem solving skills. Ability to learn and use a variety of simple to complex computer applications. Ability to communicate effectively with populations verbally and in writing. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
Higher education experience.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties
- Performs accurate advising work in the College of Science regarding individual degree requirements and relevant academic policies for specified and targeted undergraduate populations
- Confers with faculty and/or administrators with regard to transferability of credit and academic policy issues
- Documents advising appointments and student interactions in the advising software and provides follow up with students, as needed
- Maintains, updates, and edits degree audits and other student records through the university systems and advising technology, including graduation applications
- Counsels students, as necessary, on best degree and career matches, college transition challenges, and other issues related to overall student success
- Contributes to ideas, programs, and other initiatives to increase student persistence and graduation rates
- Assists with special programs at the college and university level such as orientation, commencement, recruitment events, and other activities
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with on and off campus partners to improve student service
- Promotes good will and quality customer service to students and is effective in handling a variety of student situations
- Maintains cordial and professional attitude within office, college, university, and community

M-F, 8am-5pm with some evenings/weekends required for special events and peak advising periods
