Department Summary

College of Nursing joins UNT Health offering degree programs alongside: the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Public Health, School of Health Professions and College of Pharmacy. The College of Nursing is addressing the shortage of nurses in Texas, which has the second-fewest nurses per capita in the U.S.

Position Overview

UNT Health Science Center College of Nursing is seeking applications for Associate Professor of Nursing. The Associate Professor will contribute to the academic mission of the College of Nursing by teaching, mentoring, and supporting nursing students in the undergraduate and/or graduate nursing programs. This role includes curriculum development, mentoring junior faculty, leading academic initiatives, and supporting student success across undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership in nursing education, a commitment to evidence-based practice, and a strong record of scholarly achievement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nursing education or clinical practice.
  • An active, unencumbered registered nursing license in the state of Texas or eligibility for licensure.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership in curriculum development and academic service.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all colleagues and students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong record of scholarly publications and grant activity.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards (e.g., CCNE, TBON).
  • Experience mentoring faculty and leading academic initiatives.
  • Experience with evidence-based simulation and competency based education.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

  • A valid nursing license in the state of Texas or eligibility for licensure.

Job Duties

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate nursing courses in assigned areas of expertise including instruction in classroom, simulation, and clinical settings.
  • Lead curriculum design and revision efforts to align with national standards and evolving healthcare needs.
  • Integrate and mentor other faculty in innovative teaching strategies including simulation and other modalities.
  • Engage in research and scholarship in nursing or related fields.  
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of nursing programs and curriculum. 
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to nursing students. 
  • Participate in departmental and university committees and service activities. 
  • Maintain an active role in the nursing profession through participation in professional organizations, community outreach, and other related activities. 
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching, research, and service.
