Department Summary
The Office of Strategic Infrastructure, Planning, and Construction (SIPC) at the University of North Texas System (UNTS) seeks a Director of Project Management to lead the execution of the Capital Improvements Plan across all UNTS campuses. Reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Strategic Infrastructure, this role provides strategic leadership for all project management activities, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Position Overview
The Building Official is responsible for the administration, interpretation, and enforcement of applicable building codes and regulations. This role oversees the permitting process, including reviewing construction documents, issuing permits, and ensuring compliance through inspections. The Building Official has the authority to appoint and delegate responsibilities to deputies, inspectors, and technical staff, and may consult with experts on complex technical matters. Additionally, the role includes maintaining accurate records of applications, permits, inspections, and enforcement actions in accordance with public record retention requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree in architecture, engineering, or closely related field and five (5) years of related, supervisory level experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong workload management skills. Ability to interpret construction documents to apply code review and enforcement. Proficiency in specific software or digital tools may be required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Able to speak in public and maintain a professional presence. Must have a clean driving record and possess, or able to obtain a valid Texas driver’s license before accepting employment. Ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under the University auto insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic Fire Inspector I & II TCFP Certifications.
Basic Fire Plan Examiner TCFP Certification.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
The building official shall have not fewer than 10 years’ experience or equivalent as an architect, engineer, inspector (Fire Marshal, etc.), contractor or superintendent of construction, or any combination of these, 5 years of which shall have been supervisory experience.
Job Duties:
- % - The Building Official will be authorized to render interpretations and enforce the provisions of the code, and to adopt policies and procedures to clarify the application of its provisions. - (Essential)
- % - The building official will have the authority to appoint a deputy building official, other related technical officers, inspectors, and other employees. Such employees shall have powers as delegated by the building official. - (Essential)
- % - The building official shall receive applications, review construction documents and issue permits for erection, alteration, demolition, and moving of buildings and structures; inspect premises for which such permits have been issued and enforce compliance with the provision of the code. - (Essential)
- % - The building official shall conduct or delegate the required inspections and have the authority to accept reports of inspections by approved agencies or individuals. The building official will be authorized to engage such expert opinion as deemed necessary to report on unusual technical issues that arise. - (Essential)
- % - The building official will keep records of applications received, permits, and certificates issued, reports or inspections, and notices and orders issued. Such records shall be retained for a period required for the retention of public records. - (Essential)
