Department Summary
The Marketing and Communications Team is responsible for telling the story of the Division of Student Affairs and its departments to external and internal audiences through digital and print assets including social media, videos, ads, articles, brochures, emails, fliers, newsletters, posters, and websites.
Position Overview
This is a senior level position responsible for disseminating informative and creative content that supports the Division of Student Affairs through writing, editing, video production, and design. This position produces content for multiple audiences and in varying media (online, print, broadcast) and may include videos, articles, brochures, websites, social media, reports, policies, technical documentation, and communications etc. for various target audiences and typically serves as a team lead.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in related field and five years of experience in writing and/or editing publications; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to conceptualize, write and edit strategic content for university audiences. Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, conduct multiple tasks and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to coordinate large projects with numerous components. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to visually inspect print and digital copy including experience in creative editing and fact checking techniques. Works effectively within a team. Effectively works closely with staff, faculty and students toward a common goal. Extensive knowledge of spelling, grammar, punctuation and Associated Press and Chicago Manual styles. Knowledge of writing styles and guidelines for various media formats and ability to create, coordinate and edit copy for each format (print, digital/social media, video, broadcast, etc.). Understanding of institutional strategy (or ability to quickly assimilate) and ability to integrate strategy into modes of communication. Ability to supervise and/or coordinate the work of others. Knowledge of and ability to research industry best practices to assist in aligning strategies for publications with University strategy and guidelines and effectively edit and improve content for readers based on best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
A Masters degree in the areas of communication, marketing, digital learning/media is preferred.
Job Duties:
- Ability to design brochures, logos, magazine covers, annual reports, advertisements, and other communication materials.
- Strategizes, writes, produces videos, edits, designs, and schedules content for varying media. This may include landing pages and other social media, enewsletters, press releases, advertising, and others.
- Plans and coordinates content for publications, setting editorial, production, and printing schedules; supervises student employees.
- Conducts interviews and other research.
- Ability to plan, film, and edit videos that can be used for a variety of platforms.
- Monitors UNT DSA social media properties, engaging with audience members where appropriate, answering questions, correcting misinformation, or directing them to UNT/DSA resources.
- Develops effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
