Department Summary
One of the goals of Student Activities is to help students get connected and involved on campus, to maximize their collegiate experience. Through a variety of events, services, and resources, the department provides students and student organizations with opportunities to connect to the university and to other students. Student Activities promotes a sense of community and loyalty to the University while serving to enhance the social and developmental growth of students as individuals or as members of organizations. It does this by coordinating annual campus-wide events that promote spirit and tradition on campus, supporting the North Texas Spirit program, and providing services and resources to student organizations.
Position Overview
The Coordinator of Campus-Wide Events is a member of the Student Activities team and is responsible for planning large-scale events and developing spirit and traditions at UNT.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinate and develop campus-wide programs for the University of North Texas, including but not limited to Mean Green Fling, EarthFest, and Grad Block Party
- Coordinate and develop spirit and traditions programming for the University of North Texas, including but not limited to Founder’s Day, Scrappy's Birthday, Homecoming, and University Day
- Collaborate with other departments on events, including, but not limited to First Flight
- Develop resources, including fundraising, to improve the effectiveness and success of campus-wide events and traditions
- Coordinate the recruitment, selection, training, and management of Homecoming Committee officers
- Supervise and train a graduate assistant
- Coordinate staff recognition, appreciation programming, and team building
- Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date program and service webpages
- Manage departmental webpages
- Conduct presentations and trainings related to student involvement and leadership, along with respective programs and services
- Prepare administer, and monitor budget for respective programs and services
- Facilitate assessment activities that help improve the Student Activities Center and campus-wide events
- Create reports for respective programs and services
- Coordinate risk management initiatives for respective programs and services
- Promote and advertise/market Student Activities Center and respective programs and services to the general campus community
- Develop relationships and work closely with other departments across campus (e.g., Athletics, Center for Fraternity and Life, University Program Council, etc.)
- Serve as part of Student Activities Center staff support on all campus-wide events
- Represent the Student Activities Center on division and university committees
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director for Spirit and Traditions
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field and two years' of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience that provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures, or ability to rapidly assimilate
- Knowledge of risk management and mitigation practices related to events
- Extensive knowledge in campus activities programming and event planning
- Knowledge about issues related to student development at the collegiate level
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
- Knowledge about student organization advising
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to professionally and effectively advise and mentor college students
- Strong planning and project management skills
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to work independently and on a team
- Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field
Required License/Registration/Certifications

Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday 8-5, some evening and weekend work required
