Position Overview
The Assistant Manager oversees the night shift and reports directly to the Sr. Facilities Maintenance Manager over Facilities Custodial Services. The Assistant Manager is expected to provide the highest level of customer service, provide leadership in the planning and implementation of daily operations and special/seasonal projects, training custodial staff, and maintaining the cleanliness standard throughout the university. This will be accomplished through training, routine evaluations, and area inspections.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma/GED equivalent and ten years of experience in related maintenance/repair field. Substitution of education for experience allowed. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: Chemicals and cleaning supplies, custodial tools and equipment (operating principals, adaptability, and repairs), and Safety and Security precautions as per the University policies and procedures.
Skills: Supervisory/management skills, strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to train/retrain employees.
Abilities to: Work independently or as a group, use initiative to define and resolve problems, organize, schedule, and coordinate projects, meetings, coverage for vacancies/absences, use of TMA and People Admin.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience and 8 years of overall custodial experience.
Bilingual (Spanish & English)

Job Duties

- Oversees daily operations of custodial personnel as assigned. Assist in training employees regarding procedures, techniques, products, and equipment.
- Inspects University buildings for cleanliness, safety and security.
- Monitors inventory and assures that adequate equipment and supplies are on hand. Inspect cleaning equipment and arrange for maintenance and repairs.
- Assist with scheduling for cleaning and for the opening of all University classrooms.
- Approve all time keeping task such as approving time and eleaves in a timely manner. Complete mid year reviews and yearly performance evaluations of assigned staff.
Physical Requirements
Operating machinery and/or power tools.
Communicating with others to exchange information.
Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
Environmental Hazards
Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
Noisy environments.
Work with toxic or caustic chemicals.

Monday - Friday, 12:30 AM to 9:00 AM and on-call as needed
