Department Summary
The Institute for Translational Research is devoted to bringing novel diagnostics and interventions to patients and families suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, fostering translational research in neurodegenerative diseases at UNTHSC, and Create solutions for a healthier community. Our team spans basic "bench-top" science, clinical research, community-based research and clinical trials. Our translational approach is intended to foster discovery and expedite those discoveries toward the benefit of those suffering from brain disease. A particular emphasis of ITR is the development of personalized (or person-focused) medicine for Alzheimer's disease.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for providing direct executive, administrative, and analytical support to the department Deputy Director and is responsible for a variety of complex decisions and administrative services including administration of a budget. This position interacts with department team leads while maintaining sensitivity to confidentiality and protocol. Coordinates activities and acts as university-wide liaison. Identifies issues or problems and researches solutions within specific management areas.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of highly responsible and varied office administration or business management experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training

- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

- Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Knowledge of accounting/budgeting procedures.
- Ability to work under pressure, to adjust to constant changes, to handle multiple tasks, and to coordinate the work of others.
- Ability to keep complex records, to assemble and organize data of complex nature, and to prepare and submit reports in professional formats.
- Ability to conceptualize, plan and organize multiple programs and assignments effectively.
- Ability to work on complex and confidential tasks utilizing judgment, tact, and resourcefulness.
- Skilled in developing and maintaining good working relationships.
- Knowledge of policies, practices, procedures and terminology of assigned function.

Job Duties
- Direct high level administrative support to Department Deputy Director.
- Responsible for various special projects in support of the department or administrator.
- Responsible for oversight of departmental budgetary activities.
- Handles correspondence and calendar maintenance.
- Responsible for the collection and analysis of data.
- Responsible for preparation of materials for meetings and conferences.
- Ensures required reports are completed in a timely fashion.
- Coordinates activities on behalf of the department head.
- Identifies issues or problems and research solutions within specific management areas.
Physical Requirements
- Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing.
- Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
