Department Summary

The mission of the Division of Student Affairs is to create transformational experiences for all HSC students by providing tailored support and fostering holistic development. There are 8 functional units within the Division of Student Affairs: Center for Student Life, Career Readiness Center, Center for Academic Performance, Office of Care and Civility, Testing and Evaluation Services, International Services, Office of Disability Access, and Student Assistance Resource Center.

Position Overview

The Director of Student Services is a midmanager position which provides supervision, coaching, and mentoring to fulltime professional staff members within their area of responsibility. The Position coordinates programs, services, and activities in an effort to promote student learning outcomes established within each academic program on campus. The goal of this position is to create opportunities to promote learning, ethical decision making, scholarship, and leadership within the student body.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and six (6) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Crisis Management expertise in a higher education setting; Familiarity with federal and state regulations; Ability to supervise teams; Strong organization skills

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree and/or six years of experience in a related field; Experience in crisis management and wellness programming; Previous Supervisory and Team building in a higher education setting experience; Previous experience managing budgets and resources in higher education institutions

Job Duties:

  • Provide leadership and supervision to the Office of Care and Civility, including budget and assessment. 
  • Serve as the Chair of the Care Team, providing oversight of Care Team programs, services, and crisis response and support and advocate for students who experience crisis; intervene directly in highly sensitive cases involving critical illness/injury, mental illness and other threats.
  • Develop cocurricular programming and trainings to promote positive health behaviors by students; anticipate, evaluate, and address changes in student needs and improve the student experience on campus. 
  • Develop collaborative partnerships across campus, both in and outside of the classroom, to ensure strategic integration of holistic wellness programs, initiatives, and services. Serve as Student Conduct Officer and investigate and adjudicate student conduct cases. 
  • Oversee OCC operations, including the Student Conduct, Care Team, Be Well, wellbeing and prevention programming.
  • Serve in an on-call rotation to respond to student crisis. 
  • Assist in and provide leadership for federal compliance initiatives, such as the Clery Act and Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, including subsequent programming committees related to these initiatives. 

Work Schedule:

Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm, with occasional evenings or weekends as required for divisional events.
