Department Summary

UNT Health and Science Center grounds department is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, overall care and beautification of campus grounds. This includes all grass, trees, flowers, plants, parking garages, and parking lots

Position Overview

The Facilities Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth is seeking to hire a Groundskeeper to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: Picks up and empties all trash and rubbish on grounds, and maintains appearance of assigned area with an emphasis on the cleanliness of campus. This includes but is not limited to cleaning signs, parking lots and garages, as well as landscape areas. Operates vacuums, sweeper, power washer, cultivators, edgers, power mowers, and other equipment used in grounds maintenance. Operates light specialty vehicles, i.e. golf carts and trucks, large and small, used in intercampus transportation and in the hauling of materials, equipment, and trash. Maintains tools, equipment, and materials used in his/her area of grounds keeping. Perform other tasks assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the planting and care of trees, shrubbery, flowers, and grass.
Skill in the use of grounds keeping hand tools and equipment, in the operation of motorized and gas-operated equipment, and in the repair and maintenance of sidewalks and parking lots.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:Three (3) or more years of experience in grounds maintenance, involving work in care of flowers, landscape, turf grass, irrigation, or related areas.

Job Duties:

  • Operate and maintain various landscaping tools; mowers, edgers, vacuums, power washers, sweepers, and other equipment used in groundskeeping maintenance. 
  • Pick up trash and debris on campus property. 
  • Snow and ice removal. 
  • Maintain plants, trees, flowers, and grass on campus. 
  • Clean parking lots. 
  • Operate campus vehicle and/ or golf cart.

Physical Requirements:

  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Lifting and moving objects up to 100 pounds or more.
  • Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
  • Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Operating machinery and/or power tools.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Environmental Hazards:

  • Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Low temperatures.
  • Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
  • Work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Elevated temperatures.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts or vibration.
  • Noisy environments.

6:00am-3:00pm M-F
