Department Summary

System IT is a component of The University of North Texas System. The mission of System IT is simple: to be the best at delivering customer-aligned IT solutions and services. Our services are provided to all member institutions using an IT shared services governance model.

System IT provides the primary technology used by all campuses to support their operations. These include: shared resources of data centers, computing hardware, software applications, network and voice communications, collaboration and productivity capabilities, central web services, risk management, and security and compliance services. As a department, we strive to provide the most professional personnel possible to serve our campus constituents.

Position Overview

A UNT System IT Support Technician provides technical support for UNT System employees located across All UNT campuses and occasionally to the rest of the UNT Community. Support is provided by phone, email, remote desktop tools and in person. Job duties will include providing front line support to customers, walking them through basic IT processes, computer imaging and deployment, software and hardware administration and ongoing maintenance for desktops and laptops, and supporting UNT System Staff with computer related questions/problems, network connectivity, printing problems, and computer security.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Valid Texas driver's license with good driving record
Good written, and oral communication skills
Good customer service skills and the ability to work with others
Ability to climb stairs and lift/move supplies (around 70lbs)
Due to dusty environments please inform the hiring manager of any breathing concerns
Good computer skills (Microsoft Office Products, Excel) are a plus but not required

Job Duties

  • Technical: Basic computer knowledge software/hardware including PC’s, laptop, printers, computer peripherals and software. Must have good problem-solving skills and hardware/software troubleshooting skills. Ability to work and keep track of multiple service requests and tasks at time. You must have the ability to lift and move 50 pounds. Must be a mature, motivated, flexible team player. May be required to assist with special projects take on other duties as assigned. 
  • Customer Service: Excellent customer service skills and must be able to maintain a positive attitude at work and possess good interpersonal skills. Excellent in-person, email, and phone etiquette and communication skills with end-users at all levels of the UNT organization Employee will be expected to communicate effectively and frequently with co-workers/technicians regarding work tasks. Ability to conduct yourself professionally with end-users at all levels of the UNT organization, being courteous and having a positive attitude.

Physical Requirements

  •  Lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds
  •  Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing.
  • Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
