Position Overview
The UNT System Information Technology Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire an IT Security Analyst I to join our team. The holder of this position will be a member of the UNT System Security Operations team which provides support and oversight for cybersecurity operations of UNT System Administration and all UNT System campuses. This position provides support for security tools, triage and analysis of security events, assists with risk assessment and audits, and provides system administration services. Candidates must possess good problem-solving skills. This position may require occasional on call duties, including being available to respond to critical incidents or emergencies outside of regular business hours. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director Security Operations. This is a security sensitive position.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field and two (2) years of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department
* Knowledge of information security practices and principles
* Ability to operate computer keyboards and to install computer hardware
* Ability to assimilate, retain and utilize technical and applications-oriented information
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Assurance, Cybersecurity, or a related field
• Relevant coursework in computer systems, networking, operating systems, programming languages, and security principles
• Familiarity with Windows, Linux, and macOS operating systems
• Knowledge of networking protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.)
• Understanding of firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and virtual private networks (VPNs)
• Experience with threat analysis and incident response tools (e.g. Splunk, ELK Stack)
• Basic programming skills in languages such as Python or PowerShell
• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Effective communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
• Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and threats
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Willingness to obtain additional certifications and training as required by the organization
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties:
- Triage and analysis of security alerts and events.
- Supports desktop and server security tool infrastructure.
- Provide user support for security operations systems and tools.
- Provides support and consultation on security matters.
- Assist with risk assessments and audits.
- Supports and creates security documentation.
- Assist with the incident handling process.
