Department Summary
The Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience faculty contribute to the educational mission of UNTHSC through teaching of graduate students and medical students. The department consists of faculty engaged in research in aging and Alzheimer's disease, addiction, stroke, Parkinson's disease, and drug discovery.
Position Overview
Manage laboratory inventory and experimental procedures including cell culture, ligand binding assays, sample preparation, and biochemical assays.
Minimum Qualifications
College degree, 10 years experience in wet lab research including cell culture, ligand binding assays, sample preparation, and biochemical assays.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to independently maintain healthy cell cultures.
- Performance of in vitro fluorescent and color metric cell labeling assays.
- Ability to perform and interpret ligand binding assays.
- Ability to perform sample preparation and near infrared western blotting.
- Record keeping using Lab Archives.

Job Duties:
- Maintain cell cultures.
- Perform viability and other in situations assays in clonal cell lines.
- Maintain chemical and consumable inventory.
- Prepare exosome samples from plasma.
- Prepare protein samples and perform western blotting using near infrared labeling.
- Maintain data in Lab Archives.
- Prepare summary data sheets.
Physical Requirements:
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
- Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Environmental Hazards:
- Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
- Work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
