Department Summary

The Department of Political Science at UNT is a highly productive department with 31 faculty members who are committed to excellence in both teaching and research. It offers BA, MA/MS, and PhD degrees. Faculty in the department have previously edited the American Political Science Review, International Studies Quarterly, and Journal of Political Science Education,. The department also houses the Castleberry Peace Institute, the Peace Studies Program, and the Latina/o Mexican-American Studies Program. UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview

The faculty member will be expected to teach 2305 and 2306 classes which are our core undergraduate American politics courses. The faculty member will also teach courses related to political theory. The typical teaching load is 4/4 with a teaching release for service to the department (i.e. a 3/3 load with service requirement). The faculty member will also contribute to developing our internship program, particularly in helping secure internship opportunities and assist with our pre-law program.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. (or ABD) in Political Science (or related field). Ideal candidates will be those who are well grounded in the history of political philosophy and focuses on the great themes and issues of political thought: justice, liberty, morality, religion and its relation to politics and human nature.
