The Access Services Department promotes and provides access to the collections of the UNT Libraries. As part of the Public Services Division, we strive to meet the information and research needs of library patrons through the services we offer.
Position Overview
The University of North Texas Library is seeking to hire an Evening Coordinator to join our Access Services Department.
This position supervises the Access Services Library Services Desk area operations and student assistant activities during the evening department hours. The person in this position resolves problem situations, manages emergencies, and effectively communicates with the Library Services Desk Manager, Head of Access Services, and students’ direct supervisors about relevant matters that occur during the evening. The person in this position provides primary assistance to the Library Services Desk Manager in hiring, training, and evaluating service desk student assistants and other aspects of student management. This position provides user and access services to library patrons and responds to patron inquiries and issues via email, phone, and in-person. This position assists with training new full-time staff and provides backup coverage for basic user accounts transactions.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and one year of progressively responsible library experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of library principles and policies, and knowledge of specialized area functions and workflows. Experience in working effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Ability to utilize multiple computer applications toward increased productivity in a rapidly changing environment. Strong leadership skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Knowledge of safe working procedures and security measures related to work performed.

Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties:
- Supervises Library Services Desk area operations and student assistant activities during the evening department hours. Monitors for service quality and consistency and oversees closing procedures and processes.
- Resolves problem situations occurring in the evening hours and communicates with the Library Services Desk Manager and the Head of Access Services about any issues or unusual situations that occur. Corresponds with students’ direct supervisors about student-related matters that occur during the evening hours.
- Provides user and access services to library patrons. Services include circulation, patron accounts, payments, research assistance, troubleshooting technical issues, and other departmental tasks. Maintains knowledge of evening operations and Access Services policies and procedures.
- Responds to patron inquiries and issues via email, phone, in-person. Monitors Circulation email inbox, resolves issues, and responds to questions within established timeframes. Interacts with UNT patrons, UNT Libraries staff, and personnel from other institutions in a professional, friendly, cooperative, and helpful manner. Enters transactions in Ref Analytics.
- Assists the Library Services Desk Manager in hiring, training, and evaluating service desk student assistants, communicating updates, changes, and reminders, hosting student meetings, and other duties according to the department’s student management protocols. Assists with creating and conducting student training plans and provides input on student scheduling. Assists with service workflows, manuals, and instructions for student tasks. Trains service desk student assistants on relevant tasks and cross-trains other student assistants as needed. Provides guidance and answers student questions as needed. Monitors service desk student activities daily to ensure that tasks are prioritized and completed accurately and timely.
- Assists with training new full-time staff on desk area duties, provides guidance and answers questions as needed.
- Provides secondary support coverage for basic user accounts tasks such as facilitating courtesy cards and fines, fine dispute and claims returned forms.
- Provides feedback on services, workflows and procedures, policies, and staffing levels. Assists in creating, evaluating, adjusting workflows and keeping manuals up to date, especially for closing procedures, as needed and as appropriate.
- As a member of the User Services Unit, contributes to planning and implementation of unit projects. Works collaboratively with other User Services Unit employees on projects. Participates in discussions to assess and improve services and workflows and address perceived issues.
Work Schedule:
Sunday – Thursday, 1:00PM-10:00PM (This is not a remote position) Hours subject to change depending on the department hours of operation.
