Department Summary

The UNT Health and Science Center custodial department's mission is to maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all faculty, staff, students, and visitors. They aim to deliver high-quality custodial services that support the university’s educational, research, and clinical mission.

Position Overview

The Department of Facilities Management Service Administration at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Facilities Custodial Manager to join their team. This position is responsible for mentoring, training, and assigning duties to custodial personnel involving the cleaning, sanitizing, and care of the University's internal and external premises.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to apply mathematical concepts to complete tasks (example: measuring). - Considerable knowledge of practices, tools, materials, and proper use of equipment. • Ability to monitor and supervise the work of others and ensure completion of assigned tasks. Physical ability to perform work involving standing, stooping, operating equipment, and lifting of materials and equipment. Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual (Spanish • English) Preferred and have three (3) years of related custodial working experience, or any combination of education, training, and experience.

Job Duties:

  • Plan and prepare employee work schedule.
  • Instruct staff in work policies and procedures and the use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Perform or assist with cleaning duties as necessary.
  • Manage the custodial budget; complete projections for future department operation, maintenance and salary budgets.
  • Develop and implement internal and external training opportunities to encourage and motivate employee growth.
  • Confer with staff to resolve performance and personnel problems and to discuss company policies and evaluate all direct reports, at least annually.
  • Inspect work performed to ensure that it meets specification and established standard.
  • Investigate complaints about service and equipment and take corrective action.
  • Check and maintain equipment to ensure that it is in working order.

Physical Requirements:

  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
  • Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
  • Lifting and Moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Operating machinery and/or power tools.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Environmental Hazards:

  • Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Low temperatures.
  • Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
  • Work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Elevated temperatures.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts or vibration.
  • Noisy environments.
  • Small and/or enclosed spaces.
