Position Overview

Join The Vocal Jazz Summer Workshop at the University of North Texas (UNT) as a supporting musician. This role involves assisting with workshop activities, mentoring participants, leading ensemble rehearsals, and providing performance guidance. You will collaborate closely with renowned jazz educator Jennifer Barnes, contributing to a dynamic learning environment. This position offers the opportunity to refine your teaching skills, inspire young musicians, and be part of a prestigious jazz education program.

Minimum Qualifications

• Former experience as a hired musician for UNT's Vocal Jazz Area.
• Bachelor's degree in music, Jazz emphasis preferable.
• Several years' experience as a professional musician.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• The ideal candidate for this position should possess advanced knowledge of jazz performance and pedagogy.
• Strong skills in ensemble direction, improvisation, and sight-reading are essential.
• Effective communication and mentoring abilities are crucial for guiding workshop participants.
• A collaborative spirit and a passion for education, akin to guiding an apprentice or fellow learner, are key attributes.
• The ability to inspire and nurture young musicians, fostering their growth and creativity, is highly valued in this role.

Job Duties:

• Performing as a musician for the Vocal Jazz Summer Workshop.

Physical Requirements:

• Communicating with others to exchange information. 
• Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds. 
• Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing. 
• Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Environmental Hazards:

• No adverse environmental conditions expected.

Work Schedule:

Performing as needed with student combos and in a camp concert.
