Department Summary

Facilities Management Services is dedicated to providing services to the UNT Health by maintaining an environment that is conducive to learning, teaching, and research.

Position Overview

Plumbing repair work and plumbing installation work in commercial buildings on college campus; including work on laboratories, bathrooms, and building infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • New plumbing installs.
  • Commercial plumbing repair: faucet repair, flush valve repair, drain clearing, copper soldering, p.v.c. pipe joining, cast iron repair.
  • Ability to read building blueprints.
  • Ability to do material take offs.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Texas Journeyman Plumbing License

Job Duties

  • Plumbing installation work.
  • Occasional emergency after hours work.
  • Maintain plumbing shop, tools, and vehicles. 
  • Attend yearly plumbing continuing education class. 
  • Perform preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Work with various other departments in facilities as needed.
  • Complete work orders as they come into work order system. 
  • Material procurement with purchasing credit card and monthly expense report.
  • Plumbing service and repair work. 

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting and moving objects up to 100 pounds or more.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
  • Operating machinery and/or power tools.
  • Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Environmental Hazards

  • Elevated temperatures.
  • Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts or vibration.
  • Low temperatures.
  • Noisy environments.
  • Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
  • Small and/or enclosed spaces.
  • Work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
