The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Police Officer I .
Perform all duties normally associated with employment as a licensed police officer; including, preventive patrol, arrest, search
& seizure, traffic enforcement, crash investigation, public safety and service, investigation of criminal incidents, and maintaining public order on the university campus and surrounding area. Work involves patrolling day and night all campus areas, buildings and parking lots. Police Officers must exercise good judgment and discretion in dealing with violators of laws and University regulations. Police Officers may be required to work special assignments, special events or be on call.
Position Overview

Work involves patrolling day and night all campus areas, buildings and parking lots. Police Officers must exercise good judgment and discretion in dealing with violators of laws and University regulations. Police Officers may be required to work special assignments, special events or be on call.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent; must be 21 years old; possess valid Texas Driver License or obtain within 30 days of employment; physical ability to perform Police Officer (law enforcement) duties.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Be of good moral character and able to furnish acceptable character references
• Understand and willing to abide by the Police Officers Code of Ethics
• Physically able to perform police officer (Law Enforcement) duties
• Possess valid Texas Driver’s License or obtain within thirty (30) days of employment
• Able to work long or irregular hours, on various and changing shifts, sometimes under severe emotional stress and inclement weather
• Exercise good judgment and to utilize tact and courtesy when working with the public under frequently stressful conditions
• Able to react quickly and effectively under emergency (high stress) situations
• Demonstrate professional demeanor and excellent oral communication skill
• Ability to formulate solutions to problems in accordance with statutes, regulations, and training
• Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed
• Lateral entry incumbents must be either currently employed as a police officer in Texas or other state or federal jurisdiction acceptable to the university or have less than a twelve (12) month break in service.
• Ability to operate computer with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the Internet.
• Microsoft applications.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in business, criminal justice, sociology, computer science or related field.
• Bilingual English/Spanish
• Licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Licensed in Texas as a Basic Police Officer
Job Duties:
- Conducts regular patrols inside and outside of buildings, parking lots, and around the campus grounds to watch for criminal activity, unsecured buildings, fires, and any other unusual conditions or irregularities.
- Investigates reports of criminal behavior and university regulations.
- Arrests violators and files appropriate charges where and when such action is appropriate.
- Issues citations for parking and traffic violations.
- Conducts traffic accident investigations.
- Prepares written and oral reports on completed investigative activities and calls.
- Testifies in criminal/civil court, administrative hearings and other required venues.
- Enforces traffic laws and directs traffic upon area public streets.
- Protects lives and property.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Chief of Police or police supervisory personnel.
- Observes safety and security measures appropriate to work performed and work supervised.
