Department Summary

The Computer Science and Engineering department is home to 11 Professors, 11 Associate Professors, 13 Assistant Professors, 20 Clinical faculty, 5 Lecturers, over 150 Ph.D. students, over 1,500 master’s students, and over 1,000 undergraduate students.

We offer a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering, M.S. degrees in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity and Data Engineering, ABET-accredited B.S. degrees in Computer Science and Computer Engineering, an ABET-accredited B.A. degree in Information Technology, and a new B.S. degree in Cybersecurity. Position Overview

The High Performance Cloud Computing Laboratory (HPCC Lab) in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of North Texas (https://hpcclab.org/) has an opening for a postdoctoral scholar to work on NSF-funded research in the area of Distributed Cloud and Edge Computing. Our lab is dedicated to developing solutions to lay the foundation for the next generation cloud computing systems, known as Cloud 2.0. This will include research and development in the areas such as democratizing cloud-native application development; domain-specific cloud systems with heterogeneous computers and ASICs; CloudAI; and liquid computing. In addition to research, the successful candidate will be teaching one course in the Fall and one in the Spring semester.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary and professional team of researchers to work on cutting-edge research projects to develop and apply novel middleware solutions, abstractions, and applications for the future generation of cloud computing systems.

This appointment is for one year.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Computer Science/Engineering or closely related fields.
Strong publication record in the area of computer networked systems.
Proficiency in both theory and practice of Computer Science including software development skills in programming languages such Java, C++, and Python.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior research experience in computer systems and distributed computing is preferred. However, strong research experience in developing/applying machine learning will also be considered.
Strong communication and scientific writing skills.
Expertise in software engineering practices, including documentation, version control, and code releases.
Expertise in Linux and cloud computing environments.
Ability to work independently and in group settings.
Ability to learn quickly and apply new analytic techniques.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

 

Job Duties:

  • Conduct all aspects of research projects under the mentorship of the Principal Investigator (e.g., data collection, preprocessing, analysis, software development, testing, evaluation, benchmarking, etc.).
  • Write manuscripts for publication.
  • Contribute to the drafting of grant proposals.
  • Present research progress at lab meetings and the individual meetings with the PI.
  • Attend conference for oral and poster presentations of research projects.
  • Contribute to mentoring and training of graduate and undergraduate students in the lab.
  • Will teach one course in the fall and spring semesters.
