Department Summary
The UNT Dallas College of Law is a Fully Approved ABA public law school in downtown Dallas with a full-time day division and a part-time evening division. The College of Law’s goals are: (1) widening access to legal education for those who could be superb legal professionals but who cannot realistically access a legal education given factors including location, cost, and the current role of the LSAT in admission to and financing of law school; (2) providing an educational program focused on excellence in developing practice- related competencies, through a curriculum mapped to those competencies and using best instructional practices, including multiple formative and summative assessment throughout, engaged class design, and a spectrum of experiential education; (3) creating opportunity for our students by keeping tuition and debt low and producing graduates with high value and ability in multiple segments of the market for legal services; (4) becoming a national leader in advancing understanding of best legal education practices, of professional formation, and of the relationship between legal education and the evolving practice and business of law; (5) improving access to justice for underserved legal needs; and (6) serving as a valuable partner in civic engagement with the City of Dallas and the North Texas region.
Position Overview
The Administrative Assistant to the Dean (Senior Administrative Coordinator) serves as the administrative assistant to the Dean at the UNT Dallas College of Law. This position is responsible for providing secretarial, clerical, and administrative support. It is also responsible for ensuring that customer service is provided to College of Law guests and visitors in an effective and efficient manner.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of highly responsible and varied office administration or business management experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Advanced written communication skills. Advanced Microsoft Office skills. Knowledge of accounting/budgeting procedures. Ability to work under pressure, to adjust to constant changes, to handle multiple tasks, and to coordinate the work of others. Ability to keep complex records, to assemble and organize data of complex nature, and to prepare and submit reports in acceptable formats. Ability to conceptualize, plan and organize multiple programs and assignments effectively. Ability to work on complex and confidential tasks utilizing judgment, tact, and resourcefulness. Skill in developing and maintaining good working relationships. Knowledge of policies, practices, procedures and terminology of assigned function. Supervisory skills.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Three years experience working in a higher education setting. Two years experience working in a law school setting. Knowledge of (or ability to rapidly assimilate and retain) university operating procedures, organization and policies. Experience with human resources policies and procedures. Experience using Peoplesoft query and reporting. Knowledge of business principles, practices and techniques. Knowledge of electronic information systems and accounting systems. Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts. Ability to act with considerable initiative and to work independently. Knowledge of safe working procedures and security measures related to work performed and work supervised.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties:
- Managing travel arrangements and travel vouchers for the Dean of UNT Dallas College of Law.
- Assisting the Dean in preparing speeches, reports, and formal responses to official inquiries from internal and external constituencies.
- Maintaining complex calendars and scheduling appointments for the Dean.
- Briefing the dean on ongoing issues, events, and other activities that impact the College of Law.
- Creating and maintaining department filing system.
- Monitoring and maintaining adequate levels of office supplies and administrative materials for the Dean.
- Coordinating faculty, Deans Cabinet, and administrative staff meetings including preparing agendas and minutes.
- Answering or reviewing communications of various types (letters, emails, telephone calls, and fax) and directing them to the appropriate department, faculty or staff for disposition.
- Coordinating executive communications, including those requiring a high degree of security and sensitivity.
- Responding to public inquiries as well as requests from within the UNT System.
- Serving as a backup to other administrative specialists and providing administrative support while positions are vacant.
- Assisting with ABA and SACS accreditation visits serving as the point of contact for representatives of those accrediting bodies. Assisting with other special projects as needed.
- Performing related duties as assigned.

8:30am – 5:30pm; with flexibility for evenings and weekends
