Department Summary

Facilities Management has a mission to make the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth a place where the facilities and grounds are aesthetically pleasing, clean, well maintained, and energy-efficient. Position Overview

The Facilities Management Services Administration Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Senior Custodian to join their team. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: Dust all vertical horizontal surfaces, sweep, vacuum carpet, spot clean walls as needed. Collect and dispose of trash/recycling. Wet/dry mop floors, clean/disinfect restrooms, restock supplies, polish stainless/chrome, spot clean glass/mirrors. Spot clean upholstery and other duties as needed. All duties are interchangeable and required as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of job-related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of custodial procedures and techniques. Comprehensive understanding of cleaning methods, materials, equipment, and products used in custodial work.
Knowledge of safety standards and regulations. Familiarity MSD sheets, and other safety protocols related to custodial work.
Knowledge of supervisory practices.
Knowledge of principles and practices of employee supervision, including training, scheduling, and performance evaluation.
Knowledge of inventory control. Understanding of inventory management for cleaning supplies and equipment.
Skill of leadership and management. Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team of custodial staff effectively.
Skill of communication. Strong verbal and written communication skills for interaction with staff, management, and other stakeholders. Ability to communicate to a bilingual staff.
Skill problem-solving. Skilled in identifying issues, developing solutions, and implementing corrective actions efficiently.
Skill in time management. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and ensure timely completion of custodial duties.
Skill in customer service. Proficiency in providing excellent customer service to building occupants and responding to their needs promptly.
Ability of attention to Detail. Ability to notice and address cleanliness and maintenance issues promptly.
Ability of physical stamina. Capability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Adaptability. Ability to adjust to changing schedules, tasks, and environments.
Ability of team collaboration. Ability to work well within a team and foster a cooperative work environment.
Ability of technical proficiency. Competence in using custodial equipment and technology, such as automated cleaning machines and ARCHIBUS.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Five years custodial experience. Bilingual. Able to work well with others in a professional, respectful manner. Ensure prompt customer service. Supervise, train, schedule and monitor staff. Ensure staff compliance to requirements. Perform any task assigned by Manager, complete all required paperwork on time and promote teamwork among staff. Be able to lift 40 lbs. Supervisory experience a plus.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for daily sign in of keys.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to all faculty, staff, and students. 
  • Assists in establishing goals and objectives for team through performance management system. 
  • Supervises and assigns the work of others as well as performs all custodial and floor care work as needed in order to ensure completeness. 
  • Assists with maintaining time sheets for the group of employees assigned.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g. cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuums, mops, disaster water and supplies) for the purpose of ensuring the required items are available as needed to perform cleaning functions and safety.
  • Performs regular routine quality inspections. Responsible for floor care schedules and work orders of assigned buildings. 
  • Assists Custodial Foreperson with custodial supplies and equipment as well as custodial inventory management.

Physical Requirements:

  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
  • Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
  • Lifting and Moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Lifting and Moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Environmental Hazards:

  • Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.

Sun-Thurs 7:30am-4:30pm
