Department Summary
The University Library IT Services oversees all computing hardware and software in support of the UNT Libraries – This encompasses general purpose computing lab resources for UNT student research and academic success, infrastructure in support of digital archiving and preservation initiatives, as well as server and application resources in support of Library Librarians and Staff.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of Library infrastructure and servers including team operations related to installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware and operating system software. Duties include analyzing systems, and software, participating in strategic planning of computing goals, setting objectives and strategies, oversight of the endpoint (desktop) manager. Collaborates with various internal and external stakeholders and effectively prioritizes competing projects and allocation of resources.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in related field and six years' of related computing experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Outstanding verbal, written, and documentation skills. Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills to work well individuals with widely divergent backgrounds as well as end users of systems. Must possess outstanding leadership skills. Experience of designing and developing integration solutions. Knowledge of largescale network, academic and/or administrative systems and associated hardware and software. Skills and ability to successfully manage complex systems and technical professionals. Ability to plan, execute, and manage complex, large scale, installations, conversions and implementations, including disaster recovery.
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department.
• Familiarity with VMware and virtualization technologies.
• Proficiency with Windows Server and Linux administration.
• Ability leveraging scripting languages such as Powershell, BASH, and Python.
• Experience automating tasks with Ansible, or similar technologies.

Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties:
- Manages and monitors the daily functioning of the server/storage/software/computer network and all associated systems. Designs, installs, configures, and maintains operating system servers and resolves complex problems (eg. Virtualization stack, assigned Virtual machines, server room hardware and devices...)
- Performs analysis of systems, hardware, and/or software to determine long-range and short-term courses of action to meet defined computing and/or communication objectives. Reviews the analysis of other staff and assimilates data for senior management.
- Recommends methods and ensures all Library devices, servers, and related software are secured according to department and UNT policy.
- Collaborates and provides oversight to Endpoint Administrator and Helpdesk to ensure server resources are available to facilitate their success.
- Manage and test data backup system and DR plans.
- Investigates and implements new technology solutions to align with industry best practices for academic libraries. (eg. video streaming, Inter-Library Loan application hosting, storage strategies in support of Digital Projects)
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, on call as needed
