Department Summary
The Department of Teacher Education and Administration seeks to improve educational practice through the generation of knowledge and to prepare education professionals who serve all students. It focuses on the preparation of EC-6 secondary educators and school administrators who employ current theory and research.
Position Overview
The position coordinates various activities to recruit, retain, mentor students to support the mission and strategic plan of the academic program. Responsible for managing the daily operations of the program, including mass communications, publications, research and interacting with students and potential students. Supervises all administrative tasks related to strategic planning, travel logistics, and recruiting. This position is essential to providing high quality coaching and training, while nurturing the development of students.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a related field and two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong organizational skills and ability to execute multiple projects.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
Job Duties
- Responding to information requests from potential students and following up with them. Answering questions about transfer courses, degree requirements, and certification requirements.
- Developing degree plans and certification plans with students. Ensuring students are aware of timelines and requirements for both the masters degree and the principal as instructional leader certification.
- Maintaining data base and files for students as they progress through the masters and principal certification programs.
- Facilitating student admissions processes, including communication with the Graduate School and assisting students as they submit program application materials. Organizing materials for admission committee.
- Implementing the principal Internship, including working with students, school districts, and university internship supervisors.
- Communicating with students on a regular and frequent basis about degree and program requirements. Answering questions about all aspects of the program and helping students navigate university processes. Regularly updating the Educational Leadership Handbook.
- Facilitating the Graduate Academic Certificate (GAC) in Principal Preparation, including communication about the GAC and assistance to applicants.
- Aiding in recruitment efforts, including input to maintenance for the COE website.
