Student Accounting is deeply committed to delivering the highest quality of innovative student account and financial services to the UNT community, helping ensure UNT’s enrollment and financial success. Our team is responsible for assessing and collecting all tuition and fees, processing waivers, exemptions, veterans' educational benefits, third-party sponsorships, tuition benefit programs, refunds, departmental deposit and financial services, and tax reporting.
Position Overview
This position serves as student support for essential functions related to student account maintenance, employee and student tuition benefit programs, sponsored student/program billing, third party contracts, waivers, and exemptions. Manages sponsor contract information, state exemption and waiver program records, and ensures compliance across all programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a related field with 2 years of experience in accounting, billing/receivable or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in higher education, or experience working in an industry with high volume payment transactions. A successful individual in this role will possess strong analytical skills, critical thinking, and a process improvement mindset. The optimal candidate in this position will possess a high degree of accountability, attention to detail and embrace change management.
They will be able to maintain a complex workload with competing deadlines and will be able to communicate effectively to students, campus partners, and team members. The individual will be able to develop effective working relationships across teams, departments, and divisions to ensure that projects and initiatives are successful.
Job Duties:
- Responsible for delivering exceptional customer service to all internal and external customers. Maintains positive interactions with others. Ensures own assignments and those of their team are completed accurately and in a timely manner with minimal follow-up required. Provides professional, clear and accurate verbal and written communication. Advises leadership on opportunities for enhanced services.
- Promotes a positive work environment for all team members. Demonstrates respect, flexibility, open-mindedness, and kindness in all interactions with students, team members, and campus partners. Demonstrates a commitment to the mission and vision of Student Accounting, the Division of Enrollment, and the University of North Texas. - Must maintain a working knowledge of the PeopleSoft system, navigate the system, comprehend and explain student accounts, troubleshoot issues and understand processes which affect the student account.
- Completes assignments accurately and in a timely manner with minimal follow-up required. Demonstrates initiative by taking action to provide customer service within scope of position and actively seeks additional assignments from supervisor.
- Completes routine operations of a third-party receivable operations for all domestic, and institutional sponsorships programs for tuition, fees, and other charges.
- Collaborates with Assistant Director in the development and management of relationships with multiple external corporations and/or third-party administration agencies to ensure that sponsored billing agreements are administered in compliance with sponsor agreements, university policies, and best practice.
- Maintains subject matter expert knowledge regarding sponsorship programs, prepaid tuition plans (Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan, Texas Tuition Promise Fund) policies, and procedures as appropriate and give students and campus partners accurate information regarding the use of these plans.
- Supports the billing and invoicing processes for all Texas prepaid tuition plans. Following credit, charges, and applicable refunds throughout lifecycle of all third-party charges. Submits annual tuition plan surveys to each tuition plan, respond to inquiries from plan administrators upon request.
- Research student accounts receivable and sponsored billing trends and best practices to ensure that all sponsored billing functions are administered in an effective, compliant, and proactive manner.
- Maintains subject matter expert knowledge regarding noncontracted third-party sponsorships, 529 college savings plan policies, and procedures as appropriate. Facilitates billing and student account coordination and specifics as needed.
- Provides student support, processing, and posting of institutional and state mandated waiver and exemption programs.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm with overtime as needed to achieve unit goals or during peak seasons.
