Department Summary

The UNT Career Center is responsible for the career development and employment of all UNT students and alumni. It has responsibility for all Career Readiness, Coaching and Education, Student Employment, Internships, and Post-Graduate Employment of UNT students. The Career Center operates as a centralized department with a decentralized approach and sustains collaborative partnerships with academic colleges, student affairs departments, employers, and alumni. Our vision is to empower students and alumni to identify and achieve individual goals for career success. Our mission is to design and deliver high-quality career services to UNT students and alumni through collaboration with campus, local and global partnerships.

Position Overview

The Career Coach for the UNT Career Center with the College of Music (COM). Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, interfacing with students seeking guidance on employment, career development, internships, and career-related issues. Lead job market research efforts for COM in order to provide current and relevant data to COM staff, faculty, students, and Career Center colleagues. Craft systematic full-time employment and internship pathways and external relationships in conjunction with COM leadership and the Career Center Employer Development Team. Develop and conduct workshops and seminars on a variety of topics related to career decisions, career pathways, internships, and full-time employment; assess their effectiveness; and implement changes to engage and enhance student preparedness for the workplace. Provide marketing of career services to the College. Assist other units in the Career Center and perform other duties as assigned to support the Career Center's optimal operational success. Update and maintain relevant information on the Career Center website for the college.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent public speaking skills with experience in conducting training workshops. Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to student populations. Experience in networking across departments and programs. Ability to communicate and work with the population. Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects. Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Bachelors/masters degree in Music Education, Music History, Theory and Musicology, Composition, Instrumental Studies, or other related music disciplines.

Job Duties

  • Interface with students as they seek guidance concerning employment, career development, internships, and career related issues 
  • Develop and conduct workshops and seminars on a variety of topics, assess their effectiveness and implement changes needed to engage and enhance student preparedness for the workplace 
  • Analyze students career paths, initiate career assessments, provide advice on resume development, interview preparation, and offer internship and job search resources 
  • Work cooperatively with faculty and the Career Center Employer Development and Outreach Team to utilize more companies and alumni from a broad range of industries to engage with students on campus 
  • Develop ongoing relationships with faculty, staff, and administration, working with the College of Music student population and market career services to the college 
  • Develop reports on the statistical data for all student engagement and programming for assigned area(s) of responsibility to be used for the Career Center data collection and to determine effectiveness of initiative. 
  • Assist the Employer Development Team with job market research efforts for COM in order to provide current and relevant data to COM staff, faculty, students, and Career Center colleagues.
  • Provide assistance to other units in the Career Center and perform other duties as assigned for optimal operational success of the Career Center.
