Department Summary

The Parking & Transportation department supports the university community by promoting safe, accessible, and efficient parking and transportation services across campus. Parking & Transportation Attendants play a key role in these efforts by assisting with parking enforcement, providing exceptional customer service, and serving as a visible resource for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Through daily interactions with the campus community, attendants help maintain orderly parking operations, support transportation initiatives, and contribute to a welcoming and well-managed campus environment.

Position Overview

Parking & Transport Attendant within the University of North Texas Parking and Transportation Services department supports campus mobility, parking rules enforcement, and safe transit operations.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent. A valid driver's license may be required to operate a motorized vehicle, including golf carts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Knowledge of campus geography and building locations (or ability to rapidly assimilate). Physical stamina to perform work which requires considerable standing, walking, and outdoor exposure. Ability to lift items up to approximately 50 lbs. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal range. Skill (or ability to develop skill) in the use of alarm and access devices, police radio equipment, basic office and computing equipment. Ability to make independent decisions concerning adherence to procedures and guidelines. Ability to function under pressure or in emergency situations. Skill in the safe operation of a vehicle (if position requires driving a University vehicle). Satisfactory driving record (if position requires driving a University vehicle). Ability to maintain insurability under the Universitys liability policy (if position requires driving a University vehicle).

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Excellent customer service skills. Demonstrates willingness to take initiative. Encourages process improvements.

A valid, unrestricted Texas Drivers License

Job Duties

  • Work activities are directed toward optimal resource utilization workload (quantity of work) 
  • Work activities and outcomes are planned to exceed minimum standards (quality of work) 
  • Manages time well and completes assigned projects within established guidelines 
  • Works as a member of a team placing team goals ahead of individual goals 
  • Consistently performs all duties as required related to building/facility security
  • Consistently and fairly enforces parking rules and regulations 
  • Generates appropriate level of vehicle and/or foot patrol in and around campus facilities 
  • Ensures compliance with policies and appropriate statutes 
  • Ensures compliance with safety guidelines and procedures 
  • Uses appropriate discretion in resolving problems, performance issues, and complaints 

Physical Requirements

Lifting and moving objects up to 100 pounds or more.
Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
Operating machinery and/or power tools.
Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
Communicating with others to exchange information.

Environmental Hazards

Low temperatures.
Noisy environments.
Elevated temperatures.
Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.

Work Schedule

40 hours; some overtime and weekends required
