Department Summary

The TRIO Programs at the University of North Texas at Dallas were designed to support the academic development of students in our programs. TRIO ETS serves 6-12 grade students from 10 different schools in the surrounding DFW area.

TRIO Educational Talent Search (ETS) is 100% funded through a Federal TRIO Grant from the U.S. Department of Education. 

Position Overview

The Program Coordinator supports the TRIO Educational Talent Search Program and related initiatives, requiring knowledge of TRIO Programs, services that support students, and program management. This position is responsible for program planning and development, student advising, community outreach, curriculum and workshop delivery, data collection and reporting, marketing, and budget monitoring. The Program Coordinator may also oversee day-to-day operations, provide technical and administrative support. 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two (2) year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage students, families, and stakeholders effectively.
  • Ability to mentor, coach, and advise students through the college and career planning process.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, data systems, and virtual conferencing platforms (e/g/. Teams, Zoom)
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and monitor program effectiveness.
  • Problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills with the ability to work independently and lead project teams.
  • Ability to attend events outside traditional office hours as needed.
  • Commitment to the mission of TRIO and to supporting student success through access to higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, or related field and at least two (2) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Valid Texas Drivers License

Job Duties

  • Develop, plan, and implement effective recruitment strategies that help the program meet its funded number to serve (500 students) and meet program objectives.
  • Provide one-on-one educational advising to middle and high school students, supporting their exploration of college and career options, applications, and enrollment.
  • Develop, plan, and present workshops and activities for students in grades 6 - 12 to promote academic success, career readiness, and a college-going culture.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, community stakeholders, and program leadership to implement, promote, and expand TRIO Talent Search services.
  • Plan, promote, and implement program events such as academic events, parent nights, assemblies, training sessions, and student organization presentations.
  • Provide administrative and technical support for program activities, including lesson and activity planning, logistical coordination, training, and efficient recordkeeping.
  • Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with students, families, school administrators, counselors, teachers, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in professional development and comply with TRIO, school district, university, and FERPA guidelines.
  • Provide one-on-one educational advising to middle and high school students.
