Department Summary
The College of Health and Public Service (HPS) at the University of North Texas prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health, exercise physiology and urban design.
We have eight academic departments with undergraduate and graduate programs, the Kristin Farmer Autism Center, the Center for Public Management, the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, the UNT Work Inclusion and Supported Employment (UNTWISE) program, UNT ELEVAR, and several professional development and clinical training programs to facilitate careers to address a global society.
The Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation (KHPR) has over 1,300 undergraduates and offers a master’s degree in Kinesiology and a Ph.D. in Human Performance and Movement Science.
The UNT Bioanalysis Center provides expert support for experimental design and sample analysis to researchers from UNT, other academic institutions, and industry partners. Our services are offered through a flexible fee-for-service model to meet the unique needs of each project.
Position Overview
The Bioanalysis Center Research Assistant supports research operations and purchasing and conducts various assigned tests and experiments for the center. They also collect and analyze data and prepare requested reports.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with major course work in the field of assignment, or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge of scientific research techniques, methods and procedures.
* Working knowledge of equipment used in related fields of research.
* Considerable knowledge of health, safety, and security precautions in keeping with type of research being done.
* Ability to set up and operate research instrumentation and equipment. Ability to make accurate assays and to prepare reports, charts, or graphs on results.
* Ability to work effectively with fellow researchers, staff members, faculty, supervisors and students.
Job Duties
- Supporting Research Operations in the UNT Bioanalysis Center under the direction of Dr. Brian McFarlin: see cbbd.unt.edu for more info.
- Responsible for research purchasing in support of the center operations.
- Conducts various tests or experiments using established experimental procedures.
- Operates research instrumentation and equipment.
- Assists researchers in conducting phases of a research project.
- Makes and records observations and measurements.
- Prepares technical reports.
Physical Requirements
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
Environmental Hazards
- No adverse environmental conditions expected.
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with some flexibility.
